With their debut LP arriving to the HSAL offices in a few weeks, Joey & Nathan are prepping for an eventful fall in support of “Deaf Sharp“. Their local release show will be at the Schewel Theater in the Riverviews Bldg on Friday, October 6th. The evening begins with Long Live The Pilot (they helped out with honeybrandy’s Cocteau Twins cover for HSAL #36) playing the Craddock-Terry Gallery from 6P – 8P for “First Friday”. The show gets under way immediately following First Friday. Todd Webb will open the evening with an Oahu set, then will be one of the guests who sit in with honeybrandy. There will be a cash/card bar during the show & Speakertree will be selling deluxe editions of “Deaf Sharp”.
Look for more dates announced throughout the fall & winter. To give you an idea of what these shows will sound/feel like, honeybrandy have been capturing snippets of their recent rehearsals:
JEREMIAH LLOYD HARMON!
We are currently working with Jeremiah to book an East Coast tour in March. Stay tuned for dates as they are confirmed! Still haven’t heard his debut EP? Tony Rinaldi, who plays Moog on the EP calls these tunes “among the most mind-blowing stuff I’ve heard.” Pick up a copy of HSAL #31 here…
We have made a second run of cassettes for Ben’s gorgeous full-length, “Golden Bay Garden” (HSAL #32)! This time around, it’s solid orange shells with ice white printing on the sides. Ben will have these for sale when he plays the Bazaar in Roanoke on the 16th. We should have them on the bandcamp site around the same time.
Pre-orders for Steve’s new full-length, “Cross My Heat” (first new material in nearly two decades!), will begin on Friday, 09/15. Steve will be taking copies with him for his upcoming dates in Australia. Look for the CD to be available stateside in October.
FROM LEFT: Benjamin Mauch; honeybrandy (PC: Joanna McGlothlin)
FRIDAY: Ben Mauch will be sharing a stage with Ships In The Night & Eliza Janus! If you are in/near Fredericksburg, swing by the Evolving Art Machine. Sounds start after 7P (ALL AGES!)…
THURSDAY: honeybrandy will be sharing a stage with LUNAR. Oh, the house band for Jandek’s recent RVA tour stop will be playing a set as well. If you are in/near Richmond, swing by Flora (FKA Balliceaux). Sounds start after 10P…
WEDNESDAY: HSAL will release the 7th installment of our summer-long tribute to Brian Hall & Outside Records. This week’s release is one of Hall’s latest creations, clocking in at over two hours!
TODAY: Pre-order HSAL #31 (CD) & HSAL #37 (LP) if you haven’t already (we are SUPER PROUD of both these recordings). Also, check out keep‘s most recent effort, “For Your Joy” (cover art below). NOTE: You may recall the RVA duo was part of HSAL #36 (where they dropped a righteous Smashing Pumpkins cover). Well, this new LP is KILLER! If the stars align just right, we’ll figure out a way to have them play the Hill City before too long…
Your friendly neighborhood record label has been scurrying ’round for the past several months to get all of this together, & now the time has come! Up now on our bandcamp page are pre-orders for both HSAL #31 (CD) & HSAL #37 (LP)!
HSAL #31: Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, “Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon” (CD/DIG)
(CD/DIG: Available 08/04/17) Beginning as homemade demos sent out west for reference, HSAL #31’s foundation was established over a four-day session in a converted living room. From there, layer after tasteful layer was added on via input & connections from producer Chris Schlarb (Psychic Temple, Invisible Astro Healing Rhythm Quartet). The finished product is an EP’s worth of silky smooth passages crafted by solid gold musicianship. The physical copy will be a four-panel gatefold wallet with full-color artwork designed by Jeremiah. These visuals compliment the textured world drafted by the EP. Additionally, the wallet contains a full lyric card!
HSAL #37: honeybrandy, “Deaf Sharp” (LP/DIG)
(DIG: Available now; LP: Available 09/29/17) “Deaf Sharp” is the debut full-length from honeybrandy (Nathan McGlothlin & Joey Wright). The duo headed out to southern California to work with good buddy Chris Schlarb (Psychic Temple, Invisible Astro Healing Rhythm Quartet). For the single-day session, Schlarb connected honeybrandy with a pair of phenomenal horn & reed players & even sat in on electric guitar for a portion of the time. The limited edition 12″ copy of “Deaf Sharp” on VIRGIN BLACK VINYL (with digital copy that includes the bonus tracks) is paired with a special CD that contains all recorded honeybrandy material (as of June 2017). This is another hour of sounds tracked at Nathan’s house by the duet with some guest spots from friends.

In case you weren’t aware or just missed our previous announcement, we’ve been afforded the honor of running a “tailgate” stage to help usher in the Lynchstock Music Festival! We wanted to put together a special treat for those who arrive on time or even (dare we say) early! We’ve secured a generator & are setting up to help celebrate the auditory magic that our Old Dominion continues to birth. Tentative schedule for the “Tailgate Stage” is as follows:
- 11:00A – 11:18A: Seamonster (super cute iPad-friendly pop tunes)
- 11:20A – 11:38A: asentimentalsong (swirly ambient guitar textures)
- 11:40A – 11:58A: DJP & MrT (keys + guitars + violin + vocals = catchy romanticism)
We’ll have everything set up for each act to happen one right after the other! The last sound from our stage will be done in enough time for you to rush the stage for the first official act of the festival. HSAL will also be taking care of the TLVS merch table/area. We’ll make sure there are some sweet deals on other Virginia-based vinyl, cassettes, CD’s, & other sundries available.
NOTE: We put together a playlist of all the HSAL related acts playing Lynchstock. Check it out ———–>
Speaking of TLVS, they are slated to perform on the Discover Stage at 2:05P! They are working on something rather interesting for their set & will have some special guests on stage with them. We are planning to document the set, but would love some assistance. If you end up filming any of the set or snap a couple of photos, we’d love to see your handiwork. Should we end up posting anything, we’d be delighted to post it (giving you the credit for it, of course).
Thanks to Joanna McGlothlin for capturing these sights & sounds! Both groups will be playing out more & more this summer in support of new records. For the Parade, HSAL #22 is out now on LIMITED EDITION one-sided 150g 12″. For TLVS, “Dreamers” is a 22 minute cassette EP pre-cursor to their upcoming LP, “I Can Dream All Day”.
The Accidental Parade, “S. Norfolk Memorial”:
TLVS, “Claire Kinkaid”:
HSAL #24: TLVS, “Dreamers” EP $6 (PPD)
The Harding Street Assembly Lab is delighted to bring you newly recorded sounds from The Late Virginia Summers (TLVS) in the form of “Dreamers”. While the band is currently shopping their (finally) finished LP, “I Can Dream All Day”, the two-piece put together this four song set. “Claire Kincaid” is a piece from the upcoming LP, & is featured in a non-LP mix here. There is also an epic composition (“Piece #62) that didn’t make the album, but was considered by the band as special enough to share. “Gave Up” is a sound collage assembled as the album was in its final mixing stage. The band also included (at our behest) a selection from “Hill City Eye & Ear Control” – a collaborative improv troupe featuring TLVS & a handful of friends.
Consider it a stop-gap in the TLVS catalog.
Consider it a way to add something new to the merch table while on tour.
Consider it a “thank you” from the band for continued patience while the LP was completed.
AVAILABILITY: white cassette + digital download, run of 50
