New Opin EP Drops Today!

IT’S FINALLY HERE (sort of)! HSAL #43, the new EP from Richmond’s Opin, is now available for stream & download via Bandcamp (NOTE: Other streaming outlets will begin carrying the EP very shortly). We have received word that the physical copy (one-sided 12″ cut into clear wax) will be delayed by a few weeks, but anticipate shipping copies out around Mother’s Day. All purchases (digital & physical) include a pair of additional tracks that the band cut up in Philly with Jeff Zeigler during the sessions for “Drifters“.

Recently, Landis & Tori connected with The All Scene Eye for an in-depth chat around the maturity curve of the band, how songs translate live, & what influenced the assembly of “Drifters“. Read all about it here!

Opin will be hitting the road in support of HSAL #43 this spring. Keep up with their dates, as well as the entire HSAL roster on our live performances page!

LIVE HSAL Happening this Spring!

JLH 032418

Buds are blooming across our beloved hill city, we are gearing up for lots of cool shows happening downtown. These dates are going down at Speakertree (901 Jefferson St #G7, 24504)

  • 03/24: Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon (full band!) w/ B.A.Scott
  • 04/06: TLVS w/ You’re Jovian (1ST FRIDAY w/ Jacob Laverty exhibit)

We are also working on a local date to celebrate the release of the new Opin EP (HSAL #43), which is still available for pre-order. Inventory counts are getting low on this one. If you are into this brand of interesting, catch indie rock (if you’re reading this, you most likely are), don’t wait for the 04/20 release date…

…oh, & if you happen to be out east this weekend, honeybrandy & Benjamin Mauch are playing a right killer showcase for the ninth annual SPAZZ Fest in downtown Greenville NC on Sunday, 03/25.

As for other “stuff”, we are working on something really rad for this fall. Let’s just say that HSAL is hoping to be a big part of what has become a local hallmark as the leaves begin to change…more on that later.

HSAL #43 – “Drifters” 12″ EP

HSAL #43Opin, “Drifters” EP          ** RELEASES 04/20/2018 **

The musical output of frontman Landis Wine was one of the embers that stoked HSAL into existence back in 2009. The label blossomed & matured alongside of Wine’s White Laces (The relationship birthed two small run cassettes & a special edition of their first EP). Fast forward to 2018…Wine’s new project, Opin, was seeking out a new home for a new collection of tunes tracked up in Philadelphia at Jeff Zeigler‘s Uniform Recording the previous summer.

Fresh off the heels of their impressive debut (2017’s self-titled LP on RVA’s Egghunt), Landis Wine & Tori Hovater have returned with a stable lineup & a potent, focused batch of jams, including their take on a traditional Japanese festival tune, “Shinzo No Tobira“. We had a small run of one-sided 12” records lathe cut into clear wax. The band will have these on their spring & summer dates while supplies last.

Gettin’ Ready For Spring!

The new year is wide open & your friendly neighborhood record label is picking up where we left off in 2017. First off, we have worked out a deal to release the new Opin EP! We’ve been friends with frontman Landis Wine since before the label’s inception & we’re stoked for the opportunity to work with his new outfit.

We are also dropping a couple of split cassettes. One is new output from KillGXXD (a Virginia by-way-of SoCal producer) & Irving (a Virginia by-way-of Chicago producer). The other is a collaborative affair between HSAL alums. Benjamin Mauch & Todd Webb (Oahu) will file share their way to a special set!

We are also in the final steps of releasing the new TLVS EP. The band is currently mixing down the five-track effort & will have the project mastered by the folks at Polyphonic Workshop. It’s been a long time coming & we can’t wait to share it with you all…
