Good Dog Nigel‘s debut 12″ is steady rolling off of merch tables as they continue showing up on stage after stage. Word from our partners at Infinite Repeats is that the official (full color) jackets should be shipping out any day now. This also means the deluxe editions that many of you have been waiting for will also be hitting the mailboxes soon. If you haven’t check out this party, what gives?
This digital EP by You’re Jovian drops on the first Friday of April! It’s the rest of the work Elliott did up in Philly during the sessions for “The Sound Of Who We Are” last year. Look for it at all the usual online troughs (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, & of course, bandcamp).
“autremonde: The Collected Commercials Of Death”
The other digital release from HSAL next month. This full-length (clocking in at nearly 80 minutes) is the result of over a decade’s worth of heart & soul from one of the most reclusive friends of the label. Andres Mementomori stirs up memories of late 70’s Eno, mid-80’s Gabriel, & “The Drift” by Scott Walker. Vocals are scarce but emotions run high throughout this journey. The entire palette will present itself on April 19th. Oh, & you can preview a cut from this album in the soundcloud player on the left-hand side of the screen. ( <——— )
This summer, HSAL has the honor of partnering with Virginia Beach soundsmith Oahu (sonic moniker of cartoonist Todd Webb) for a duel EP release. The 2CD collection will prove to be the stuff of legend. On the first disc, Webb works out soundscapes based on source material provided by Deerhoof guitarist John Dieterich! The second disc will contain a highlights set of “daily bleeps” curated by Webb himself! NOTE: Not sure what daily bleeps are? Get educated here…this series is one of the things that first endeared us to Oahu’s output.
Yup, this one’s gonna SLAY! The LP is tracked & the band is in the throes of mixing these nine cuts down. Nothing concrete (at least nothing we can officially announce yet) but it looks like the release party for this one, slated for a weekend just shy of peak color on the trees, should prove to be coolest party of the year. We know – bold prediction. That’s how much we believe in this record.
In case you missed it, Good Dog Nigel through a killer party this past weekend in celebration of their debut 12″. New Boss & TLVS stirred up the anxious crowd before Nigel took the stage & tore through a sixty-minute revue that focused on the band’s current output. Highlights included a brand new tune featuring New Boss’ Devon Sproule on vocal harmonies as well as the perennial set closer “I Don’t Want It“.
Due to some press issues, the intended full color jackets were not quite ready for the February 22nd release. Lost Woods Print (run by Thomas Dean, who also runs Infinite Repeats & plays in Nigel) partnered with Parker to create some limited edition jackets for the show. All orders shipped with these jackets will receive the actual jackets via USPS once they are in hand.
If you happen to score one of these limited edition jackets, we’d love to see how you would spruce it up. Break out the crayons & really make it your own copy! As we see your handiwork, we’ll get ’em posted on our Instagram feed.
Good Dog Nigel is gearing up for something SPECIAL & it is a mere days away! The 12″ (co-released with Infinite Repeats) is dropping on the 22nd & the party is going down at the Ellington (421 Rivermont Ave, 24504). We got hold of a test press this weekend…it sound very, very choice!
Charlottesville’s New Boss & our own TLVS will be opening the release show. We have it on good authority that the entire evening will be the sort of stuff dreams are made of…
Speaking of TLVS, they are currently writing & demoing new material. The goal is to end up with a new LP’s worth of material & then some by year’s end. No word on when any of this new material (recorded or live) may surface, but we can hope…
L.A.Dies is gearing up to begin recording their debut full-length in Richmond next month. If all goes to plan, we’ll be up there with ’em & (fingers crossed) will be able to share some of the magic as it is captured. In quasi-related news, we have started seeing these stickers pop up:
…and finally, we just began talks with some friends & family about HSAL #53 & #54. Should all our dreams become reality, these catalog entries will be coupled & released together in a special package!
There are now TWO ways to pre-order the upcoming 12″ EP from Good Dog Nigel. For $25 USD, you can score the SUPER LIMITED EDITION “DELUXE” PACKAGE from Infinite Repeats. This version includes the vinyl copy, a screen-printed poster, a t-shirt, & more…
Those who are looking to get in on the fun in a less expensive fashion may still score a copy of the 12″ EP for $13 USD via bandcamp. Either way, copies are moving…don’t sleep on this one!
In related news, Good Dog Nigel is stirring up more buzz this week at the video premiere for “Comedy“, which appears on “The Implied Sunrise“. This Tuesday night, Nigel mastermind Parker Emeigh will not only debut the Nick Scheetz directed video, he will deliver a motivational speech for any & all to receive. It all goes does down at 7P…
Still not convinced? Stream the lead single from “Sunrise” here:
Out ahead of the EP release, Good Dog Nigel offer a glimpse into the magic that is to come. “I Can’t Be“, the lead track from “The Implied Sunrise“. At the onset, this track comes off like the memory of a hazy afternoon spent with friends. As the melody walks into the room, heads begin bopping to the rhythm. The temperature rises with the energy of anticipation until the moment that a sweaty dance party erupts with as the songs comes down from a lofty peak. Sounds too good to be true? Stream it for yourself (everyone else already has). While you’re at it, go ahead & pre-order a copy of the 12″ EP (most of your friends have done that too)!
Pre-orders are now up for our next project! HSAL #48, in cooperation with Crozet’s Infinite Repeats may be purchased through the label bandcamp page. This is the latest in a line of several announcements surrounding this 12″ EP (a first for Good Dog Nigel), which is set for a late February reveal**! Score your copy today & stay tuned for future developments as they unfurl…
** NOTE: the 02/22 date listed on the page is a moving target at this point **
PS: Pre-ordered copies of “The Implied Sunrise” will include a download of a cut from the record to tide hungry fans over until the wax drops!
This entire thing swims around in the psyche of Parker Emeigh, who has surrounded himself with a rotating cast of players (live & in the studio) for about two years now.
What made them attractive to HSAL?
Songwriting. Relentless energy. Ambition.
What will 2019 hold for the band?
Alongside of Crozet’s Infinite Repeats, HSAL is co-releasing Nigel’s first foray into vinyl in the spring. “The Implied Sunrise” is nearly a half-hour’s worth of spry psych pop written by Emeigh & captured to tape by Albermarle svengali Thomas Dean (New Boss). Look for pre-orders to drop after the new year gets underway…
With a consistent troupe of musicians en tow, expect Nigel continuing to scrounge up smart supporting slots on bills around the mid-Atlantic while working out details for a tour in support of “Sunrise“.
So, what DOES the band sound like?
…rather than namedrop a bunch of acts RIYL style, we decided to let the tunes tell the tale. Here’s a few cuts from the 2017 EP with their two tracks from HSAL #44 mixed in to begin fashioning your ears for what is to come…
