Last Year, Part Five

We have reached out to different people within & around the HSAL camp to find out what from the last twelve months inspired them. Over the past month, we’ve posted a series of lists. Our hope is that you will get an idea of where we are coming from. Here’s what Steve Scott, author, poet, & spoken word performer, turned in:

Archival capture of the poet (PC: Annie Jornlin)

The year 2018 was consumed with moving out of our old house/selling it, living in an apartment while the new house was finished so I’m going to base my list a bit on that experience…

#1The mere accumulation of things

(CLICHE ALERT!) How much stuff you can accumulate over X years of living as a family in one place.

#2What stays? What goes?

The hesitations and rationalizations that go through your head when contemplating discarding things/books you will never use/have time to read etc. (you hear about this sort of thing, but the actual experience is inspiring / sobering)

#3Heather Hammers & Nelli Andreeva

Heather Hammers. Always. Nelli Andreeva. Always. These two are singers who need to be way better known.

#4Abide And Go (Missional Theosis In The Gospel Of John)

Michael J. Gorman‘s excellent book on these complementary aspects of spiritual growing as talked about in John’s Gospel.

#5The Gospel of John

John’s Gospel itself. A perennial source of wonder, delight, revelation and instruction. In 2018, as much as any other year…

#5b“Truth & Beauty” (June 30 – September 30, 2018)

The Pre-Raphaelite show at the SF Legion of Honor.

HSAL Family on the move!

Reports from Steve Scott‘s trip across the seas have been positive! In addition to working through a university-based lecture circuit in Australia, Steve was able to spend some time in Bali. Who knows, maybe he was able to gather field recordings that will source a follow-up to the already successful “Cross My Heat“. On a related note, our continued thanks for all the support shown towards HSAL #38. It’s been such a neat experience introducing people to the label through this album.

Fresh off the heels of a killer show with Soporus in Philly, honeybrandy will be taking to North Carolina based airwaves this weekend! This Sunday night at 8P, Joey & Nathan will be playing a live set on WUAG, the student-run station for UNC Greensboro. The entire set, plus any interviews & shout-outs will be live streamed as well.

TLVS is gearing up for their 11/18 date with Sound of Ceres & Advance Base. They are also finishing up tracks for their new EP, recently re-titled “Wild Strawberry“. If all goes well, the EP should be streaming from the HSAL bandcamp page by the time you’re digesting that second helping of cranberry sauce.

Stream HSAL #38 NOW!

While the physical version of the new Steve Scott album, “Cross My Heat” drops this Friday (10/13), we went ahead & pushed the streaming version to Spotify early! You can check out HSAL #38 in its entirety…nearly an hour’s worth featuring Scott’s first new recordings in nearly two decades.

We are currently shipping pre-orders for this CD worldwide. Additionally, Scott has physical copies with him in Australia. He’ll be down under for another week, completing a lecture circuit of colleges & conventions before returning to the states.

HSAL #38 – Pre-Orders Are LIVE!

HSAL #38 Cover Submission O (layers)

Effective immediately, you can pre-order the new Steve Scott album, “Cross My Heat” from the HSAL bandcamp. Unlike anything we’ve released thus far, HSAL #38 is an hour of storytelling prose set to a backdrop of ethereal synths & far eastern field recordings (check out lead single “With Any Luck” below). Some of the material represented on “Heat” has been floating around the internet (in demo form) for years. Now, for the first time in nearly twenty years, fans will drink in the sights & sounds of Scott’s mind as he occasionally breaks the surface of experience at random parts of the globe.

Street date for HSAL #38 is October 13th, but pre-orders will ship out WELL BEFORE that date. Don’t be surprised if your pre-order package includes some additional HSAL action as well.
